On February 8, 2017, the CFPB announced that it is making available on its website a webinar on the 2015 Home Mortgage Disclosure Act (HMDA) final rule. The CFPB HMDA webinar discusses identifiers and other data points, including those related to applicants and borrowers. Last August, CFPB staff conducted a webinar providing an overview of the HMDA final rule.
On October 15, 2015, the CFPB released a final rule amending Regulation C, which implements HMDA. The final rule amended the types of institutions and transactions that are subject to Regulation C in addition to requiring that covered institutions collect, record and report certain data on mortgage applications and loans. These revisions are intended to increase transparency in the mortgage lending process and to help regulators determine whether financial institutions are serving the housing needs of their communities.
The CFPB has made other resources available for institutions subject to HMDA requirements. For example, this 2017 HMDA institutional chart presents the criteria for whether an institution is subject to Regulation C in 2017. The CFPB has also made available this Key Dates Timeline which summarizes HMDA requirements and key HMDA implementation dates. Other resources for HMDA filers are available here.
